The Raptor Micro ATX™ Utilizes The Chipset To Deliver A Broad Range Of I/O, Multiple Ethernet, And Scalable Processing Performance In A Single Design.

MORGAN HILL, California (12/11/01) ---- American Predator Corporation (APC) today launched the Raptor Micro ATX™, the applied computing industry's first motherboard based on the new Intel® 82801E Communications I/O Controller Hub (C-ICH).

American Predator's newest industrial motherboard delivers a broad range of I/O capabilities, multiple Ethernet ports and scalable processing performance-a virtual "wish list" for the networking and telecommunications industries.

The Raptor Micro ATX board is custom-designed to meet a diverse range of embedded computing requirements across a wide spectrum of device categories, including medical, firewall systems, security, and factory automation, serving vertical market segments ranging from the pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries to printing, test and measurement, textile manufacturing and industrial robotics.

The combination of the Intel® C-ICH with the Intel® 815 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub (GMCH) provides the Raptor Micro ATX with high integration and flexibility. The Intel® 815GMCH features built-in graphics and digital video out required by some applications, while the high integration of the C-ICH eliminates the requirement for separate Ethernet controllers and additional I/O cards. American Predator consolidates high levels of I/O and networking functionality into a compact 9.6" x 8" six-layer board.

"This is the highest level of integration we have ever implemented," said Ed Trevis, President and CEO of American Predator. "You can run the board without plugging any additional I/O into the expansion slots."

With support for Intel® Pentium® III and Celeron® processors, the C-ICH provides a scalable, high-integration platform that enables American Predator to target a wide variety of custom-designed price/performance solutions. Dual integrated Ethernet media access controller functionality and integrated serial universal asynchronous receiver transmitters (UARTs) reduce system costs by eliminating the need for additional add-on cards.

"This high integration solution opens the door to custom designs with substantial cost savings. It allows our customers to implement their wish lists in a very short time period." States Ed Trevis. "The availability of a high integration board facilitates design customization, and the reduction in component count helps reduce development costs," states Ed Trevis. "We are dealing with so many different industries that consistency in the hardware platform is extremely important." American Predator anticipates the high integration design will help shorten the development cycle while maintaining a high level of functional reliability.

"Companies can use this high-integration board-level solution to dramatically reduce time-to-market," says Joe Jensen, general manager, Intel Embedded Intel Architecture Division. "In addition, the C-ICH helps American Predator customers benefit from Intel's embedded processor roadmap."

The combination of expansion cards, drivers and software has traditionally added complexity to the design process. American Predator boards based on the C-ICH will help alleviate this complexity, both at the design stage and when upgrading to higher performance.

"This solution allows our customers to take advantage of higher-speed processor technology," Trevis says. "It will help our customers launch solutions with capabilities their market segments have never seen before."

The Raptor Micro ATX will begin shipping January 2002. For more information, or to request an evaluation kit, contact our Sales Department at (512) 456-2400 orsales@corvalent.com.
